SeaShellsbySeaShore welcomes our first featured artist!

We are glad to announce Felisa!  She is a hard working mother of two that designs gorgeous Sea Inspired Jewelry on Etsy.

A little about Felisa...

I'm married and I'm a mother to two young boys. Being a "Mommy" is most rewarding! During my personal time, I enjoy making jewelry, reading books, and baking.
This year I opened up my online shop at www.DesignsByFelisa.Etsy.com where you can find my coastal and nature inspired jewelry and at times I list designed compact mirrors. I also accept orders via e-mail -CraftsByFelisa@gmail.com, or on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Designs-Crafts-by-Felisa/123164681093875

It brings me complete joy when I can make another person happy. For example, when a stranger, friend, or family member appreciates my work, is completely satisfied with their order, and refers my shop to others. I also love it when my children tell me "ooh" or enjoys looking at my final piece.

I've always been a creative person by heart but when I had children, my devotion and time was theirs. Early last year when my mother passed away, it was a difficult time for me; however, I found my craftsmanship extremely therapeutic. It was as if I rekindled my relationship with my creative side. Since then, I've dedicated more personal time to enjoy crafting and creating beautiful coastal and nature inspired jewelry.

Currently, Etsy is one of my favorite websites - not only because I have an online shop there, but also the fact that Etsy has other wonderful and talented artist & crafters.  I love using sea shells, polymer clay, resin, acrylic paint, and river rocks as part of my materials. I enjoy reading jewelry books and I admire Matthew H. James - a Mixed Media Artist based in New York.

I reside in Mountain House of California. It's approximately 2 hours away from the Pacific Ocean. I enjoy where I live because it's peaceful and it's not that far of a drive to the Bay Area. Special moments with my husband and family take place along the coastal line.

Some of my short term goals are to familiarize myself with local craft events, and to meet other jewelry makers in my area. This will lead into my long term goals, which is to participate in local craft shows and festivals; encourage young adults to explore their creative side, and to volunteer my time hosting river rock painting sessions and jewelry making classes at a geriatrics facility.
I am a spiritual person and I believe in God.

~Thanks for sharing Felisa!  We wish you an exciting, and successful year ahead!

Recap on Recycling Post from Dec 2010

This is just a quick recap from an old Dec 2010 post.  You can see the original post here-
http://seashellsbyseashore.blogspot.com/2010/12/back-to-those-goals.html

About that time, we began using grocery bags as our trash bags.

It was hard at first making the switch, but I'm glad to report, this has now become very easy, and rewarding!
We have purchased one (1) box of regular trash bags since we began in Dec.  That box is pretty much still full, and I don't anticipate buying anymore soon.  We use the regular bags occasionally for collecting trash from multiple rooms,  and storing items like blankets.
We have consistently used the small grocery bags for all our trash in our kitchen, bathrooms, etc.  The small size is perfect, and means you have to empty more often (keeping stinky trash out of my home), but mostly RECYCLE and REUSE more.  We compost or garbage disposal more, and save things like glass plastic containers that can be reused.  Any excess items I recycle through Recycle Bank (and earn rewards for it) or donate on Freecycle.org.  You can set up membership in your area for freecycle.  It a great place to offer, or request items that are no longer useful to you, or items you need.  I even ask for more plastic grocery bags on there!

For the art of recycling and reusing Freecycle is awesome- it is International, and you can visit the main page freecycle.org to find your local group.
Recycle Bank is avail in many areas- you can use this link http://www.recyclebank.com/referafriend/?___store=us&bl=YnlIaXNncmFjZTMwQG1zbi5jb20=&utm_campaign=Refer-a-friend&utm_medium=direct%20link&utm_source=S7546269&cm_mmc=Refer-a-friend-_-direct%20link-_-S7546269-_-referral
to see if its available in your area, and you'll receive $$$ saving rewards, and gift cards for recycling.  Another AWESOME program.

I'd love to hear from ya'll on some money saving, recycling and reusing techniques you are using.

Check out my latest Page

I have just added a NEW page to the blog!  The 2nd page is my Gallery of past and present artwork.  I am still updating with more images, and will be working this week to add links to all the photos that are available for sale on Etsy.  This will also provide me a space to give my followers 'first picks', and showcase new items that have not hit the Etsy marketplace.  Please keep in mind, some items have sold in the past, and I will be adding that to their descriptions as well.  Don't hesitate to inquire about any item (even if it has sold), because I love custom requests.
Stop by and visit the new page today!

I am also looking for ya'lls opinions on what you would like to see from my blog in the future, or suggestions of any kind!  I have lots of ideas and new features in the works like featured coastal artists, contests, giveaways, and DIY projects.  I hope you continue to join me in my adventure, and pass along my site to your friends and other sea loving individuals.

I have a lot in store for ya'll, hang tight, and enjoy the ride...
